This section describes the various surcharges and incentives relating to private health insurance. These affect the amount you will pay for private health insurance or for public health insurance through your tax.

• Lifetime Health Cover is a Government incentive to encourage you to take out and maintain health cover.
• Private Health Insurance Rebate provides a Government rebate of at least 30% on your insurance costs.
• Medicare Levy Surcharge applies to taxpayers above a certain income who do not have private hospital cover.
• Discounts on premiums may be available from your health insurer for a variety of reasons.
