Lifetime Health Cover (LHC) is an Australian Government initiative designed to encourage people to take out hospital insurance earlier in life and to maintain their cover. The LHC loading you will pay depends on several factors including your age, when you arrived in Australia and how long you have had health insurance. Note: overseas visitors cover or travel insurance is not recognised as hospital insurance under the rules.

This calculator will provide you with information based on legislation which commenced on 1 April 2007. If you had hospital cover on 31 March 2007 and that cover is continuing, your LHC loading, if any, is based on the previous legislation. Your health insurer can provide you with details of that loading.
