HCI is a restricted, not-for-profit nationally registered private health insurer based on the north west coast of Tasmania in Burnie. The organisation was established in 1938 and commenced paying medical and hospital benefits to employees of APPM Ltd in 1939. In 2002, HCI expanded its' membership eligibility criteria to provide an impetus for growth. You are eligible to join if you are or have been: employed in the forestry, timber or downstream processing industries including the production of timber and paper products; or a contractor or sub-contractor (including employees) providing services to forestry, timber and paper industry businesses; or a dependant, grandchild, parent or sibling of a person covered by one of the above categories. Once accepted as a member you retain your HCI membership eligibility for life. Membership is available no matter where you live in Australia.
